Minister for Women, Children and Poverty Alleviation, Mereseini Vuniwaqa has expressed her concern of yet another baby found dead, this time at Suva Point yesterday. Ms Vuniwaqa said there were support systems in place for all women and they could not claim they did not have a choice. “There are children’s homes that people can bring their baby in,” she said.

“There is no excuse for this type of behaviour.”

Police spokesperson Ana Naisoro said a 32-year-old woman was walking along the Suva Point foreshore around 6.30am yesterday morning searching for herbal medicine.

She came across a bag lying on the beach.

Ms Naisoro said when the woman picked up the plastic, she found a fully-formed baby boy in the bag. “The body was taken to Colonial War Memorial Hospital and was confirmed dead on arrival,” Ms Naisoro said. “It is now kept at the CWMH mortuary awaiting a postmortem while police continues its investigations leading to the mother of the baby.

“We are again pleading for information about the mother or any information in general that could assist us in this case.

“This is a request also for the Nabua case where the body of a newborn baby was found in a creek last week. We are yet to identify the mother.” A Suva Point kiosk employee who wished to be anonymous said it was just after 8am when she arrived at work and saw three Police vehicles parked and officers searching around the place.

She did not know what was happening and said they left within an hour’s time carrying something with them.
