Vodafone Fijian football striker Christopher Wasasala was the toast of the Labasa side as they romped to a 3-0 win over Suva in the Vodafone Premier League clash yesterday.

Playing at Subrail Park, the dashing Wasasala scored twice. Suva had to play with 10-men after Kelvin Naidu copped a red card.

What happened: The hosts started strongly and did not allow Suva to settle down. Their one-touch passing thrilled their fans as they controlled play before Wasasala drove in their first goal.

Trailing 1-0 Suva under new coach Sam Lal tried hard to score but the Labasa defence led by veteran Taniela Waqa kept them at bay.

Halftime: Labasa 1-0 Suva.

The Babasiga Lions kept on the pressure in the second half and again dominated play. The Suva defence began to open up and this allowed stylish midfielder Antonio Tuivuna to slam in their second goal.

The visitors began to slow down but it was Wasasala who sealed the 3-0 win with another classic goal in the dying moments of the game.

Comments: Labasa Football Association secretary Varun Anand said: “The boys played well but they could have done better. They didn’t stick to the game plan but we’re preparing and looking forward to a tough game against Rewa tommorow.”

Suva coach Sam Lal said: “It was the red card given to Kelvin Naidu that affected our performance. “Labasa is a good team and they move fast but the red card had affected our game plan as well.”
