Sapkal reaffirms India’s support at Duavata Carnival

Fiji and India are close partners in the developmen­t process, says Indian High Commission­er to Fiji Vishvas Sapkal. During the Duavata Northern Crime Prevention Carnival at the Damodar City Complex land in Labasa on Thursday night, Mr Sapkal said the Indian Government has always helped Fiji in times of crisis like the recent Tropical Cyclone Winston. “Moreover, every year we provide short term and long term scholarshi­ps to Fijian students to study in India,” Mr Sapkal said. “For short courses we send about 200 students and for long term courses in the bachelor programmes, postgradua­te and for the masters course we have selected 35 students. “Many have returned to Fiji after successful­ly completing their courses and are currently employed in various areas. “Hence, I would like to encourage students to make

“I want to tell you that the Government of India will continue to support Fiji and its people,” he told the crowd gathered for the Bollywood night programme. “There have been many ways we have helped Fiji such as providing vegetable seeds, adopting 20 schools to help with the renovation and maintenanc­e and supporting Small and Micro Enterprise­s (SME) grant scheme and many more.”
