Meliki Racule Ravuna, 38, is always thankful to her husband Peniasi Ravuna’s support for the success of her pre-school.

This is the fourth year Mrs Ravuna, a qualified Early Childhood Education teacher is running a kindergarten from her home. Vuravura Unity Kindergarten’s 32 students celebrated Early Childhood Education week last week. “All of them are going to Class One next year,’ Mrs Ravuna said.

The Ministry of Education sent Mohini Singh four weeks ago to join Mrs Ravuna.

“I am very passionate about teaching children and when I realised that here in Jittu Estate where I live there were a lot of children who do not get the opportunity to attend pre-school because near-by schools were always full,” she said.

“I then decided to start a pre-school close to where the children live.”

She acknowledges the support of her husband who funded her education at the University of the South Pacific so that she becomes a certified ECE teacher. “My husband is my strong pillar. Following my graduation he helped me set up the kindergarten.

“I am thankful to my husband who is a street vendor selling socks, pompoms and panadol and with the money he gets he was able to fund my tuition at USP and he is still supporting my pre-school now.” Enrolment for the 2018 students will start in November.
