Naivicula Village together with Naveicovatu and Nasau in the clan ( yavusa) of Naloto, Wainibuka, Tailevu have reaffirmed their support to the FijiFirst Government come the 2018 Fijian General Election.

Naivicula is 2000 civil coup leader George Speight’s village. Speight had instigated the coup removing the Mahendra Chaudhry led Government.

Presenting the whale’s tooth (tabua) in Naivicula, Tailevu to the Attorney-General and Minister for Economy Aiyaz SayedKhaiyum on behalf of the turaga na Tui Naloto on Friday, Kameni Raiova says the presentation of the whale’s tooth is significant because it marks their acknowledgement and support to the Government.

Mr Raiova said they were happy that an invitation to the AttorneyGeneral to visit their preschool was well received.

He said past governments have never accepted their invitation nor have they stood by the promises they gave to the people of Naloto.

“With the visit of the Minister, we are encouraged that our children’s education is supported and this Government understands and comes to see us,” Mr Raiova said. He said the presentation of the tabua is significant because their ancestors have always performed this with love and respect.

“This Government is the one we want to lead our country. This Government is the one that has reached our village. From past Governments all we have heard was yes! yes! and yes! But nothing was done to our pleas.

“We don’t want a Government that makes false promises.” The vanua of Naloto had first showed their support to the Bainimarama Government in 2006. “We went with Tui Naloto and the yavusa to present our matanigasau to our tai (PM) to show our support,” he said.

He said the former Minister for Education Mahendra Reddy has visited the village more than once and he had initiated the kindergarten project. “Mr Reddy counts this village as his own and we are thankful that the Government continues to help us for the education and development of our children.”

He said nearby villages did not believe that the Attorney-General would visit Naivicula.

“He is here with us today and we are so grateful with his presence. “What George Speight did is in the past, we have moved on and we can say today, this is our Government, the Government of the Fijian people. Naloto supports this Government.” Spokesperson (matanivanua) for the Tui Naloto Josua Nasau, 67, said the FijiFirst Government has done well for their people and the Government’s support to the people has been extraordinary. “We are thankful because we only see Mr Sayed-Khaiyum on television and read about him in the newspaper but today he is with us, listening to us and sitting amongst the people,” Mr Nasau said.
