Princess surprised with win
Janta Tek-sponsored Year Six student Marie Chute was in tears when she was crowned Princess of the 2017 Duavata Northern Crime Prevention Carnival at Damodar City Complex land in Labasa on Friday night.
The 12-year-old of Saint Mary’s Primary School in Labasa said she was surprised to win the title.
“I never expected a win because the other four contestants were intelligent and beautiful,” Marie said. “I would like to thank God, my sponsor and parents for their support,” she said.
“For without them I wouldn’t have been able to stand before the crowd over a period of one week.
“I would like to dedicate this win to my late grandfather, George Chute who passed away two months ago after a short illness at Labasa Hospital.
“He had been my motivation and inspiration. I miss him so much and wish he was here sharing my achievement.”
Her mother, Melania Chute, 41, said she was confident that her daughter would grab the crown.
“For over a month she prepared her advocacy message on suicide,” Mrs Chute said.
“She is very humble, gentle, understanding and protective over her family. I committed long hours of prayer daily for her to God,” she said.
“Praying that she would win the crown and live her dream.”
Janta Tek Limited owner Sumeet Gohil said he was very happy for Marie.
“Last year we sponsored a teen contestant, Viniana Tutora and she was crowned as the winner and this year we sponsored a princess,” Mr Gohil said.
“A back to back win in different categories is a proud moment for us,” he said.
“We have been doing this as a way to give back to the communities in the Northern Division.” Meanwhile, Miss Satish Motormart Limited Emrald Faktaufon was first runner-up and Miss Fusion Bar Katrina Bonaveidogo was second runner-up.
