The current holder of the Guinness World Record for the lowest golf score across 18 holes joins the Fiji International at Natadola Bay Championship Golf Course on August 17-20. Australian Rhein Gibson shot an incredible 16-under par 71 at the River Oaks Golf Club in Edmond, Oklahoma, USA on May 12, 2012 for a total score of 55.

River Oaks course measures 6,700 yards with a par score of 71. Gibson’s round included two eagles and 12 birdies, and the rest of the holes were par for the course. Gibson currently plays on the Web.com Tour, just a step below the PGA TOUR in USA and despite his record breaking round, he’s yet to break through for a victory since turning pro in 2010.

He has however forged a decent career on the American secondary Tour with numerous top-10 finishes across the Web.com Tour and ISPS HANDA PGA Tour of Australasia over the last three years. Gibson made his Fiji International debut at the inaugural tournament in 2014 where he finished 53rd, his recent results in the United States would suggest the New South Wales golfer is ready to pose a threat in the tri-sanctioned tournament this year.

A top-5 finish in the Nashville Golf Open, a tournament that benefits the Snedeker Foundation founded by last year’s Fiji International champion Brandt Snedeker, has been Gibson’s best result in 2017. The Web.com Tour is notoriously competitive and compete week-.toweek is an achievement in itself, given the opportunity to earn full status on the Asian and European Tours could see Gibson flip his Touring life on its head and start competing on a completely different circuit.

Gibson is the only player from the Web.com Tour to tee it up at Natadola Bay and will certainly pose a threat with so much on the line, a replication of his world record round will go a long way to earning his first professional victory.
