The Land Transport Authority is unable to process or accept taxi permit applications for now because the freeze on public service vehicle permits has not been lifted.

This was confirmed yesterday in a statement by the chief executive officer, Carmine Paintedosi.

Recently, the authority was receiving many enquiries and requests regarding taxi permit applications.

“The authority wishes to advise that, until such time as the ‘freeze’ on PSV permits is amended, the LTA is unable to accept or process these requests,” Mr Paintedosi said.

“Once the freeze on PSV permits is lifted, potential applicants will then be able to apply for such permits, on the paper form, and subject to meeting the relevant criteria.”

The statement further said they would advise the public on this matter as they move closer to the enactment of the proposed changes.

Meanwhile, the authority has confirmed there has been an increase in the number of taxi permit scams being reported to them by the public.

“There have been reports that some individuals who are pretending or impersonating LTA officers, and offering to give permits in exchange for money. The authority advises the public that these individuals unknown to the LTA do not represent the authority,” chief executive Mr Paintedosi said.

“All LTA services and payment of fees are only done at LTA offices and not in any other location. The authority will not be responsible for any illegal dealings done.”
