It was a proud moment for Inspector Rusila Nasemila to be awarded a medal while standing beside her father at the Fiji Police Force medal parade in Nasova, Suva, on Friday.

Her father, retired Police Inspector Atunaisa Tawake, 69, who served the Fiji Police Force for about 40 years, was a recipient of the Solomon Islands Police Force International Law Enforcement Medal.

Inspector Nasemila was awarded the Overseas Service Medal – to recognise officers who had served in any overseas Police peacekeeping missions.

“Today is a proud moment for me to stand beside my father who has been my motivation, pillar of strength and had encouraged me to take up this job as a Policewoman,” Inspector Nasemila said.

She’s been serving the Force for the past 20 years and is currently the station officer at the Lami Police Station.

Inspector Nasemila, originally from Beqa, had served in South Sudan for a year where she managed to gain leadership roles.

“To serve in a volatile area like South Sudan is one of the toughest challenges, but at the same time it came as a good experience of leadership roles which I believe will help me execute my role within the Fiji Police Force,” she said. Mr Tawake said he had always advised his daughter to be ahead of what he had achieved. “It was an emotional day for me to see my daughter awarded right beside me. I have always encouraged her to be one step ahead of where I was at the Fiji Police Force,” Mr Tawake said.
