Fiji Rugby Union and the Fijian Primary Schools Rugby Association will ensure that teachers get the right coaching qualifications.

FRU chief executive officer John O’Connor made the comment when he officiated in the opening of the 2017 Rewa Galaxy Kaji Rugby tournament at the ANZ Stadium yesterday. “This competition is an important pathway for Fiji Rugby Union because it is the start of getting kids into rugby,” O’Connor said.

“The important thing is we are working with Fijian Primary Schools Rugby in making sure we get the start right.

“We want to make sure that by next year, all the teachers who are coaching have proper training.

“I have been to a few Kaji rugby district competitions and there is so much pressure put on the children to win the games.

“This is the start of their journey which is a long one and I want these kids to enjoy playing the sport because if there is too much pressure they will not enjoy the game as much and they will look to other sports. Speaking on behalf of the sponsor for the past three years, CJ Patel Group, marketing director Nathan Hildebrand encouraged teamwork and fair play during the four-day competition. “Rewa Galaxy is proud to be the sponsor. Rewa Galaxy strengthens bones, heals muscles and provides you with the energy that you need,” Hildebrand said. “This is why we seek value in sponsoring the Rewa Galaxy Kaji Rugby tournament. “Together with the FRU and the Fiji Primary Schools Rugby, we are building a strong future for Fiji rugby.”
