FIA hosts International Meet
The Fiji Institute of Accountants (FIA) will this week host the Confederation of Asian and Pacific Accountants (CAPA) at a three-day outreach meeting of CAPA’s Professional Accountancy Organisation Development Committee (PAODC). Over twenty delegates representing the PAODC or members of CAPA are expected to attend the meeting of the Committee which aims to provide input and recommendations to the Board regarding strategies and activities for professional accountancy organisations (PAOs), including FIA, to pursue.
Thirty-two PAOs operating in Asia and the Pacific are members of CAPA. Fiji is one of eighteen countries which hold full membership in CAPA through FIA. Other countries include Australia & New Zealand; Bangladesh; Canada; China; India; Japan; Republic of Korea; Mongolia; Nepal; Pakistan; Papua New Guinea; Philippines;
Samoa; Sri Lanka; United States of America and Vietnam. The Denarau meeting will cover topics pertinent to the advancement of the profession of accounting in the regions covered by CAPA as well as honing in on the FIA’s five year strategic plan. PAOs from Papua New Guinea, Samoa and the Solomon Islands will be represented at the meeting. For the FIA, the meeting provides the opportunity to build value adding network and relationships with key leaders of PAOs from other regions, create international exposure of its strategic direction for the next five years and exchange development ideas on how to sustain a successful institute that will better serve its members. Hosting the meeting is also an opportunity for the FIA to showcase Fiji to its international counterparts.
The meeting will be held at the Sofitel Resort and Spa on Denarau from Thursday 17th and will end on Saturday 19th, August 2017. Past meetings of the PAODC have been held in Vietnam, Samoa, Papua New Guinea and Mongolia.
