Kamil College Beats Defending Champion Nukuloa To Win Semifinal Spot
Kamil Muslim College walloped defending champions Nukuloa College 1-0 in the quarterfinal of the 2017 Vodafone Fiji Secondary Schools Football Championship at Ratu Cakobau Park, Nausori yesterday. Kamil College under 19 Coach Azam Ali was overwhelmed with boys’ performance as they anticipate their semifinal against Cuvu College.
“The boys did well despite undergoing a tough competition from defending champions Nukuloa College,” Ali said.
“There were a number of players that were overlapping and it was not an easy game for us but we are glad that we were able to beat them.
“I believe this was our toughest opponent’s so far and we hope to keep the winning momentum in the team till we reach our aim of qualifying in the final tomorrow. “We are looking forward to the game tomorrow as are carrying few niggling injuries in the side. “However, we are focused on taking one game at a time and also try not pressure the players a lot”
And in the other quarterfinal, Cuvu College defeated DAV College (Suva) 2-0.
Their victory sees them meeting Kamil Muslim College in the first semi-final.
Baulevu High School beat Nadi Muslim College 2-1 in the third quarterfinal.
Savusavu Secondary School has sneaked into today’s semi-final after thrashing Gurunanak Khalsa College 5-2.
Baulevu meets Savusavu Secondary in today’s second semi-final. Cuvu College 2-0 DAV College; Baulevu High 2-1 Nadi Muslim College; Kamil College 1-0 Nukuloa College; Gurunanak Khalsa College 2– 5 Savusavu Secondary 8am: Cuvu College vs Kamil College
