CHAMPS SUVA ON TRACK

Defending champions of the 42nd Vodafone Fiji Primary Schools Football Inter-District Championsh­ip, Suva face Nadi in the first semifinal of the Under-14 grade today.

This was after the Junior Maine-skippered side beat Rewa 3-1 in penalty shootout.

Suva took an early lead in the 7th minute with a goal from Peniasi Rotidara.

Rewa managed to equalise in injury time through a penalty kick from Rohan Nair after Rishav Khan was fouled by Clevry Troy in the box.

Daniel Long stood tall in goal after he saved two penalties from Rewa. Raunak Chand and Gabriel scored each from the spot.

Suva U-14 head coach Raneel Prasad said the team regrouped after their loss to Lautoka on Tuesday.

“I am pleased with the boys to have regrouped once again. Rewa was tough and took us to the wire,” he said.

“We had a good pep talk and the boys proved it against Rewa.”

Nadi striker Josaia Vetawa was on song with his goal in the first half which was enough to edge Navua 1-0 to qualify for the semi-final.

In the third quarter-final Ba proved too strong for Dreketi 2-0, both goals came from Mohammed Mozeel in the second spell.

In the last quarter-final Pawan Singh scored in Labasa’s 1-0 win over Lautoka.

The final is scheduled for 1pm today.
