VODAFONE BA RIVERSIDE CARNIVAL Be Good reps of Climate Change: Eden
“We must become more conscious of our surroundings and take pride in our beautiful country”
The Assistant Minister for Environment and Local Government Lorna Eden has urged the nine contestants vying for the 2017 Miss Vodafone Ba Riverside crown to be good advocates of Climate Change in the week-long carnival.
Ms Eden reminded the contestants together with the people of Ba that it was time they take responsibility of the environment they live in. “We must become more conscious of our surroundings and take pride in our beautiful country. “This is the time for action and I urge you all to make this a long term obligation to our environment, to our cities and towns, especially to our communities, to our families and to our children and their children,” she said.
“This year all town and city carnivals have mirrored Fiji’s Global commitment to climate change. “In turn, each town and city has chosen their own theme and your town of Ba has chosen their own theme and that is the apt theme of, ‘Save our Environment’.
“To save our environment, there are many basic activities that we can participate in and some of them include; zero tolerance on litter, planting more trees, keeping our surroundings neat and green, harvesting our rain water, using cleaner and sustainable energy, and keeping our waterways clean and clear.
She acknowledged the contestants and wished them well for the weeklong carnival.
“I would like to commend the contestants who will be competing this week, you are all extraordinary young women, and wish you well over the next few days,” she said. “I extend my appreciation to the major sponsors Vodafone Fiji Limited for their support again this year and I also thank Fiji Broadcasting Corporation and Fiji Airways,” she added. Meanwhile, Fiji Airways will be sponsoring a trip to Singapore for the winner of the carnival; and a trip to either New Zealand or Australia for the winner of Miss Charity.
