Cars, Cosmetics, Gold: The Lavish Lifestyle of Gurmeet Ram Rahim
Dera Sacha Sauda chief Gurmeet Ram Rahim lived a lavish lifestyle. The police, while sanitising more than 100 dera (ashram) in Haryana, found swanky rooms with imported furniture and luxury items embellished i n gold from his Panchkula Sector 23 dera.
Investigations have revealed that the godman got ‘VIP rooms’ constructed in this dera where nobody was allowed to enter. Besides, the Police also seized hundreds of iron rods, wooden sticks and petrol bottles.
Sources close to the dera said Ram Rahim is fond of cosmetics and would often use them. Besides, he also used sex tonics, sources said. He, however, lived in a separate place which was first known as goofa but was later renamed as ‘Tera Vaas’ after the sexual exploitation cases came to light.
The accused also owns a fleet of imported luxury cars such as Lexus. His men would cover all the cars with tarpaulins so that nobody knows in which car he was travelling. Police investigation also revealed that Ram Rahim had modified his luxury cars to suit his needs.
The Police also recovered female undergarments from his cars besides medicines. He had also partitioned his cars so that the driver never know what is happening inside them.
18 girls rescued from Ashram
At least 18 girls were rescued from the sect’s headquarters in Sirsa. The girls were taken for medical examination after a team of local administration rescued them from the sprawling ashram.
“18 girls, aged up to 18 years, were taken out from the dera after completing all legal formalities.”
“At present, these girls are under the supervision of a Child Protection Officer and, later they would be sent to child protection institutes being run at different places,” Sirsa deputy commissioner Prabhjot Singh said.
Meanwhile, district authorities have lifted curfew from Sirsa town except areas near the Dera Sacha Sauda headquarters. Speculation was rife on who will succeed convicted Ram Rahim, with the names of his son Jasmeet, adopted daughter Honeypreet and Dera chairperson Vipassana Insan doing the rounds.
The Punjab and Haryana HC directed both state governments to set up special investigation teams to probe all the cases registered against Ram Rahim.
