The Fiji Roads Authority (FRA) will be upgrading its webpage to enable members of the public to have access to more information about roads and bridges.

This will soon be going live says Fiji Roads Authority Manager Network Operations, Brian Keller.

Mr Keller said the webpage would include a significant amount of information about Fiji roads and bridges; which ones were closed and those that were under maintenance. In regards to bridges, information includes which road it is located in, length, width, weight and speed limit.

“We are collating information and providing them in a portal to be made available to everyone soon,” Mr Keller said.

“With the help of the Geographic Information System anyone can access the webpage and get information directly, the page will be updated on a regular basis,” he said.

Meanwhile the Authority is still debating as to how much information should to be accessible to the general public.

Mr Keller said: “I’ve actually got all reports on bridging photographs and inspections, now the debate is to have these reports available or whether we restrict that, which is still up for discussion.

“Basically it means that there is a tool which we can make live for all of Fiji to show the bridges that have weight limits on them.”

He added their most significant challenge was awareness, getting people to know the weight limits of their trucks. “People will need to be aware of what trucks are allowed to carry, making this assessment for people so they know that when they are buying their truck they will need to know how much they are expected to carry on the truck.”
