Residents Blow Steam After Vancouver Win
Vodafone Fijian Residents beat the Canadian Wolverines in a lackluster match at the King George Park in Richmond, BC, Canada, yesterday. Coach Jo Rabele said the 20-6 win could only be blamed at the sub-standard field and the fact the Canadians were unprepared to host them.
“I’m very disappointed at the hosts,” he said.
“The field was not up to standard and to top it off, there were no touchline judges.
“You would think the facility for the sanctioned match would immaculate”.
Rabele said his team couldn’t play structured rugby.
“The players played half their potential after learning the Canadian Wolverines were not at full strength.”
Fijian Residents standout, Viliame Rakuli said the players showed true Fijian resilience in the face adversity.
“I agree with what the coach had to say about the field and the lack of match officials, but I’m happy for the boys who played for one another to win the game”. The Canadian Wolverines were on a five game skid ahead of the Fiji match-up and coach Ben Fleming’s fiery pre-match hype up fell on delivery. The seven changes to the roster resulting from injuries, availability and performance failed to spark the team.
“We wanted to win against Fiji Residents but we lost to a good team.
