Everyone has a duty to protect their families, properties and community, says Duavata Northern Crime Prevention Carnival chairman Satish Kumar. Mr Kumar made the statement during the carnival thanksgiving celebration at Kshatriya Hall in Labasa on Saturday night.

The thanksgiving programme was also an opportunity for the organisers to thank the sponsors, queen, king, teen and princess contestants including their families the importance of having a crime-free community.

“One of the reasons of hosting the carnival is to encourage the community and police partnership so that everyone can live in an open window without fear,” Mr Kumar said.

“I want to thank the major sponsor Pinto Industries Limited for sponsoring the carnival for so many years.

“I would also like to thank Dayanand Damodar and the management for giving us his new Damodar city complex ground free of charge.

“The purpose of the weeklong carnival is to raise a lot of awareness on crime prevention and this year the 28 contestants managed to achieve this aim.

“The reason we changed the venue from Subrail Park to Damodar City because the ground was already occupied.

“I would like to thank my committee members for their support and I eagerly look forward to another grand successful carnival next year.”

The carnival was held from July 29 to August 5.
