Wallabies too good for Pumas
Canberra: Wallabies coach Michael Cheika moved to quash any complacency after his team posted a resounding 4520 win over Argentina, warning that a wounded South Africa will be seeking revenge in a fortnight.
The Springboks were annihilated 57-0 by New Zealand earlier in the evening, and the Wallabies’ next match against South Africa in Bloemfontein in a fortnight suddenly looks very winnable.
But Cheika, who had not seen the Kiwis’ performance but had heard the result, said it would be foolish to get carried away with Australia’s first Rugby Championship victory of the year or underestimate the Boks.
“No one knows better than us how the game can get away from you against New Zealand,” Cheika said.
“What I do know is that when he get to the highveld, it’s going to be on, they’re going to be looking for some retribution on someone and that’s most likely going to be us, and we’ve got to be ready for that.”
A superb second half display delivered victory for Australia; they scored 35 points in the last 40 minutes half having trailed 13-10 at the break.
While Cheika is renowned for his halftime rev-ups, he left it to skipper Michael Hooper and other team leaders to deliver the spray in the sheds.
