Cane Farmers Join FNPF

More than 12,000 sugar cane growers and their families now have a chance to save for retirement with the Fiji National Provident Fund. This follows the signing of the Memorandum of Understanding between the Sugar Cane Growers Council and the Fiji Sugar Corporation yesterday.

The MOU allows FNPF to register interested cane growers as voluntary members under the voluntary membership scheme. FNPF’s General Manager Member Services Alipate Waqairawai said FSC would facilitate the deductions for the growers and payments to FNPF under the third cane payment scheme.

FSC chief executive Graham Clark said this was another initiative for the industry to improve the livelihood of farmers. “FSC is happy to lend and support the scheme, use the system for collection and contributions and help spread the word amongst our growers, and I hope it spreads fast and our growers can take advantage.”

Sugar Cane Growers Council chief executive, Sundresh Chetty said it was a great opportunity for growers for their retirement. “Not only the growers but the growers children who are under the age 55 and also farm workers, lorry drivers, cane cutters and anybody associated with the cane industry.”

“They will have an opportunity to join this scheme and have something for their retirement when they grow old.”
