Koya leads Delegation to Guangdong Expo
The Expo will run from 21 to 24 September 2017 and will be attended by high-level representatives from over 40 countries and 56 organisations.
The Minister for Industry, Trade, Tourism, Lands and Mineral Resources Faiyaz Siddiq Koya is leading the Fijian delegation to the 2017 Guangdong 21st Century Maritime Silk Road International Expo in Dongguan, People's Republic of China.
Fiji is attending the Expo and the Industrial and Financial Cooperation and Development Forum on the special invitation of the Governor of Guangdong Province Ma Xing Rui.
Mr Koya was given a special mention in the opening address by Lu Yesheng, Dongguan Municipal Party Committee Secretary and Chen Yunxian, Member of the Party Leadership Group of the Guangdong Provincial Government. “The Chinese Government considers the Pacific region as an important extension to the Belt and Road Initiative through the maritime Silk Road.
“The invitation to Fiji as a special guest underscores Fiji's importance as a strategic partner and conduit to the Pacific region,” Mr Koya said.

There are over 1400 exhibitors displaying their products and services including 6 companies from the Fijian private sector.
Mr Koya was also the first foreign keynote speaker at the Industrial and Financial Co-operation and Development Forum yesterday. The theme of the Forum “Extensive Consultation, Joint Contribution, and Shared Benefits on Industrial and Financial Co-operation and Development”, provides an important platform for deepening economic and trade exchange, as well as extension of co-operation and business opportunities.
In his keynote address will focus on how all partners can work together and contribute to the realisation of the objectives of the maritime Silk Road strategy – inclusive development and shared prosperity.
The Fijian delegation includes the Permanent Secretary for Industry, Trade and Tourism Shaheen Ali, Trade Commissioner/ConsulGeneral, Yolinda Chan, president of the Fiji Chamber of Commerce and Industry Peter Mazey, Senior Trade Officials and representatives from the private sector.
