Nudes For Cash In Car Park Exchange Claim
More reports emerge as nude images racket takes on a new dimension.
Groups of male students at the University of the South Pacific are allegedly exchanging photos of naked young Fijian women on campus for money, witnesses have claimed.
They say the photos are allegedly collected separately before the groups gather in the car park to exchange the material.
They also said the boys would place bets on the pictures to try to identify the girls in them by their nude bodies alone.
The person who guessed correctly would win rights over the money and the picture, they said. Multiple sources have confirmed the eye-witness accounts. The pictures are supposedly different from the ones recently discovered in a large collection of nude photos of local women on a publicly accessible online Dropbox link.
It is unknown whether the group exchanging the images and the person(s) uploading nude material online are linked.
Police spokesperson Ana Naisoro last night warned the perpetrators against the exchanges.
She said: “Those who have information about these activities are urged to come forward; and (we urge) those involved to stop as it is illegal to sell the photos.”
University Vice-Chancellor and President Professor Rajesh Chandra maintained his stance in denouncing the actions.
He said: “The University is very shocked and saddened to hear about the incident and strongly condemns it. “We have taken this very seriously and will investigate it further. USP will provide its support to the victim(s) in every way possible. The University will hold the responsible person fully accountable.”
Minister for Women, Children and Poverty Alleviation Mereseini Vuniwaqa had earlier labelled the leak as a “breach of trust”, urging the victims to come out and report such incidents. A second leak containing hundreds of new nude material was also discovered; but its contents were deleted early Thursday (21/09) morning.
It is understood the action was taken after the Fiji Sun released a report on the front page about the link on the same day.
