The Fiji Revenue and Customs Service (FRCS) has stepped up to support the Fiji Cancer Society.

“One of our values is ‘one organisation’ and I am thrilled to see the whole organisation coming together as one in supporting the fight against cancer with the Fiji Cancer Society,” FRCS chief executive officer, Visvanath Das said during his opening address yesterday at the event.

“We administer and carry out functions for the Government and raise funds for the provision of public goods and services. “For a change, the organisation joined hands to raise funds for a noble cause.”

With the 2017 slogan ‘No one fights alone’, the Service joined in the fight against Cancer by donating $2126 to the Fiji Cancer Society.

“I would like to take this opportunity to thank the social club for organising this event; as an organisation, it is important that we support,” Mr Das said.

FRCS staff members at the event had a chance to listen to the story of one of the cancer survivors, the Vude Queen and Fijian singer LaisaVulakoro.

“Thank you for supporting the Fiji Cancer Society. Thank you for supporting people with cancer and those who need treatment. Your donation will go a long way in making a difference in somebody’s life,” Ms Vulakoro said.

Society communications officer Kaliova Kadomavatu expressed similar sentiments.

“On behalf of the society, trustees and the board members as well as the CEO, we want to thank FRCS in saying yes to hosting one of our iconic events, so from our hearts to yours. Vinaka Vakalevu (Thank you very much)!” he said

“Thank you for your generous and wonderful support,” he said.

“It is also a great chance for people to come together and chat about a topic that can be so difficult to discuss because it’s very personal and because of the country that we live in, the Pacific region, all the traditional taboos and the culture that we come from, sometimes it is very difficult to discuss topics such as this.”
