China, US to Start Peo­ple-to-Peo­ple Talks

The meet­ing is one of the four high-level dia­logues es­tab­lished dur­ing the Mar-a-Lago meet­ing be­tween Chi­nese Pres­i­dent Xi Jin­ping and US Pres­i­dent Don­ald Trump in Flor­ida in April.

China and the United States will hold their first so­cial and peo­ple-to-peo­ple di­a­logue on Septem­ber 28 in Wash­ing­ton DC, Chi­nese For­eign Min­istry spokesper­son Lu Kang said at a rou­tine press brief­ing on Mon­day.

Chi­nese Vice Premier Liu Yan­dong will co-chair the di­a­logue with US Sec­re­tary of State Rex Tiller­son. The two sides will have in-depth ex­change of views on bi­lat­eral ex­changes and co-op­er­a­tion in rel­e­vant ar­eas, ac­cord­ing to Lu. “China would like to work with the United States for a pos­i­tive out­come from the di­a­logue,” Lu said.

The meet­ing is one of the four high-level dia­logues es­tab­lished dur­ing the Mar-a-Lago meet­ing be­tween Chi­nese Pres­i­dent Xi Jin­ping and US Pres­i­dent Don­ald Trump in Flor­ida in April.

At that meet­ing, the two sides agreed to es­tab­lish high-level di­a­logue mech­a­nisms, in­clud­ing the diplo­matic and se­cu­rity di­a­logue, the com­pre­hen­sive eco­nomic di­a­logue, the law en­force­ment and cy­ber­se­cu­rity di­a­logue, and the so­cial and peo­ple-to-peo­ple di­a­logue.
