Just within days of implementing the e-Ticketing system, bus drivers have been issued with infringement notices. This was after the Land Transport Authority (LTA) received complaints of drivers putting up bad conduct against passengers that is against the law, says the LTA chief executive officer, Carmine Piantedosi.

Mr Piantedosi said the LTA officers for these and other reasons continue to be out on the roads in strong numbers to ensure that drivers are complying with the codes of conduct and the law amidst the new changes in the industry.

“We are collating data on the kinds of infringement notices issued to bus drivers”, he said. He also confirmed that complaints have lessened with regards to e-Ticketing from passengers. The common complaint however, still remains of buses failing to provide services at their designated routes on time. Mr Piantedosi said the LTA will seek explanations from the bus companies before any action is taken against them.

“There could be other reasons as to why they could not service the routes on time so we will need to find that out before making any conclusions,” he said.

On the other hand, Mr Piantedosi said the drop in complaints were an assurance that the public was getting used to the system.
