Fifty international swimmers are expected to compete at the annual Mana Fiji Swim Festival 2017. The event is to be staged at the Mana Island Resort and Spa from October 26-28. Event co-ordinator Abdul Kalaam said yesterday overseas competitors would once again projected to join the 30 local swimmers. “The event has been running for the last six years and is now a big hit,” he said.

“The international participants are mostly those from the Australian market. So far there are 50 international swimmers registered and we expect approximately 30 locals as well.”

He said the SwimFest is fast becoming the go to event for swimmers wanting to combine a tropical island break with some of the most beautiful swimming water in the world. Also it’s for those wanting to have a go at a longer distance.

“Interestingly, the 10 kilometres solo event acts as a qualifier for the competition at Rottnest Island, Australia set for February 2018. The Mana Fiji SwimFest offers its 10km swim on October 26, and swims of 5km, 3km, and 1km on Saturday, October 28.

The event is supported by Westpac Fiji, Vodafone Fiji, Blue Gas, JKevi, Redbrick Laundry, Viti Bure Builders, Vinod Patel, Paradise Beverages, Fiji Water and Coca- Cola. “This is a sponsored event and we appreciate the support we’ve received from our partners,” he said.
