God said respect teachers

-

Shivneel Chandra, Tavua

As the head boy of my school, I would kindly like to highlight the importance of giving the uttermost respect to all our teachers who have taught us one or other thing in life so far.

In all the schools Teacher's Day celebration was an opportunity to promote and recognise the importance of educators in the future of every generation. It was also to show appreciation and highlight the many contributions of the teaching profession.

Teachers are important because they not only provide instruction to children in one or more academic areas, but they also stand as an additional source of encouragement in the life of a child, thus, they are given uppermost respect and consideration in all the religions

Firstly in Christianity, numerous words of God is written in the holy Bible pertaining to teachers and the teaching profession; one simple example would be Proverbs 22:6 which kindly states "Train up a child in the way he should go; even when he is old he will not depart from it." In Hinduism or in an Indian society the teacher or the guru is given utmost honor. They create and sustain knowledge and destroy the weeds of ignorance. It is believed that teachers are blessed with the purity of goddess Saraswati (goddess of Wisdom is the mother of knowledge, music and all the creative arts). Thus we can imply that our teachers are to be treated as the supreme and deserve the same amount of respect which is offered to the controller of the world. So my dear friends disrespecting your teachers would simply mean a clear imposition of disrespect to your lord.

Moreover in Islam, Prophet Mohammad always cared and appreciated teachers. The significance of a Muslim teacher can be realised from the fact that the prophet was himself a teacher who taught mankind about the right and wrong, and the religion that defined the existence and oneness of god.

Finally, teachers, I believe, are the most responsible and important members of society because their professional efforts affect the fate of the earth. I would like to wish you all the teachers a belated happy teachers' day and may more success, happiness and joy be delivered at the doorsteps of your homes.
