Opportunites Now In The Hands of Young: Konrote

- JYOTI PRATIBHA SUVA Edited by Naisa Koroi

The young people of Fiji today now have opportunities their parents and grandparents didn't.

This was the message from President Major-General (Ret’d) Jioji Konrote in his annual address to the nation for Fiji Day.

“…It is with all of you that the progress that our nation has experienced in recent years will continue. Your smiling faces are affirmation of all that we have worked for, and your energy and enthusiasm give purpose to everything that we have yet to achieve. It is everything that we are fighting so passionately to protect,” he said. He reminded them that Fijian youth now have doors opened to them that were never possible for their parents and grandparents.

“Universal free education is paving the way for a brighter future, increased access to university education through scholarships and the tertiary education loans scheme and our network of technical colleges are building a more skilled and educated workforce. Every dollar spent on our youth is an investment in our future, and we are seeing that investment pay off every day.

“On this Fiji Day, let us both celebrate our young people – may the Fiji that we know today be a launching pad for their success. May our future generations continue the trajectory of economic growth and global influence. May the sons and daughters of Fiji yield the fruits of our labour and carry our great nation into a better tomorrow.”
