Moroivalu Says Celebrations Display Nation’s Unity
This is the day when the nation celebrates its unity, religious and cultural diversity focused on its multi-cultural society.
These were the words by the Commissioner Eastern, Luke Moroivalu, while speaking at the Fiji Day celebration in Levuka yesterday.
Mr Moroivalu said we can attest that Fiji has come a long way.
“We are now celebrating the 47th year as an independent nation. This is a remarkable achievement in itself and one that should be celebrated extensively,” Mr Moroivalu said.
This year’s Fiji Day celebration theme is: Fiji: All-Inclusive and Caring Nation. “The theme resonates well with Fiji’s involvement and chairmanship of the COP23, projecting to the world our value of caring and advocating to all the inevitable lifetime challenges associated with Climate Change, and our plea to world leaders to save the planet for our future generation,” he said.
It also highlights the Government fulfilling the underlying Sustainable Development Goal pledge to, “Leave no One behind.”
He added as a small island state, we have portrayed our footprints globally and displayed our unity as a nation. This was apparent when everyone from all walks of life are coming together to rebuild the country.
“The current stance by the Government in ensuring that everyone is adequately supported. Across our beloved nation has never been better and is generating the current prosperity that we are determined to extend to every Fijians,” he said.
“Fiji Day celebration was not only a time of reflection about our 47 years history as an independent nation, but also envisioning for a brighter future that beckons now.
“As a sovereign state, we have shown great resilience by overcoming many challenges along the way.”
Mr Moroivalu said this has been made possible by those that have called Fiji their home.
“Those who have laboured long and hard, to build the country to what is today,” he said.
