Naupoto Stresses Importance Of Sacrifice To Officers
The Commander of the Republic of Fiji Military Forces (RFMF) Rear Admiral Viliame Naupoto yesterday emphasised sacrifice at the inaugural Corrections Day at the Naboro Corrections complex.
“Sacrifice is a word that we have been attributing to ourselves as members of the disciplined services in the conduct of our duties,” Rear Admiral Naupoto said.
The Fiji Corrections Services celebrated its first Corrections Day since it was set up 143 years ago at Levuka, Ovalau.
Rear Admiral Naupoto reminded Corrections officers that the word sacrifice did not belong to or defined them exclusively.
“We do what we do because that is the job that we wanted and signed up for. In the military, we even swear an oath to that job and the institution that provides us the job.”
He said sacrifice defined more the life of their families. “They go without us to allow us to do the job that we choose and signed up for.” The best way to repay that sacrifice he said was for them to do their job to the best of their ability.
“So today as you celebrate your inaugural Corrections Day I ask that you rededicate yourselves to excellence in the performance of your duties.”
On behalf of the people of Fiji he thanked the Corrections Department for the hard work and commitment to the rehabilitation of the unfortunate members of the society. “I wish you God’s blessings today and wish the Corrections Department, you and your families all the best.”
He was accorded a full traditional welcome ceremony.
Fiji Corrections Commissioner, Commander Francis Kean said they had planned the event for quite some time. It was also the first time to have a Commissioners Roll which was also commissioned yesterday by Rear Admiral Naupoto.
