DEFENCE FORCE SIGN AGREEMENT
MUTUAL PROVISION OF LOGISTICS SUPPORT
The Republic of Fiji Military Forces (RFMF) and the Australian Defence Force yesterday signed a Mutual Logistics Support Agreement (MLSA) at the Queen Elizabeth Barracks, Nabua.
The agreement is designed to facilitate the mutual provision of logistics support between the RFMF and the ADF.
The agreement was signed by ADF’s Air Chief Marshal Mark Binskin and RFMF Commander, Rear-Admiral Viliame Naupoto. The RFMF mounted a 50-person guard of honour for Air Chief Marshall Binskin.
He was also accorded a traditional welcome ceremony by RFMF senior officers.
Air Chief Marshall Binskin thanked the Commander RFMF for the warm welcome.
He said the Australian Defence Force was thankful to the RFMF for the support it had provided them at the Golan Heights. In good and bad times, the two Forces continue to work hand in hand, Air Chief Marshall Binskin said.
This was evident after severe Tropical Cyclone Winston struck Fiji last year.
Rear Admiral Naupoto thanked the ADF for their support during Fiji’s time of need.
The Australian Defence Force also provides training for both senior officers and non-commissioned officers.
A team recently returned to Australia after training a number of RFMF peacekeepers on the use of Bush Masters armoured vehicles.
Air Chief Marshall Binskin’s visit coincides with the arrival of the HMAS Childers on Wednesday.
HMAS Childers, an Armidale Class patrol boat, is in Suva as part of a regular South West Pacific deployment that helps to build relationships.
