- CHARLES CHAMBERS Edited by Mohammed Zulfikar Feedback: com.fj charles.chambers@fijisun.

While many around the country celebrated Diwali, more than 100 members of the Naseda family gathered at Matawalu in Lautoka for their first reunion.

The reunion was held with the theme of bringing the family closer together, getting to know each other and openly contribute to a fund that would be used to assist those in need.

The family roots started in Nailaga Village in Ba where the late Vilikesa Mataribiribi, also known as Vilikesa Naviko, and his wife Atelini Naqiri came from.

Family spokesperson, Miriam Blake said this was the first time they had gotten together as a family and was a starting point where they would have reunions more regularly now.

Organised by Mr Naviko’s grandchildren, the day began with a prayer service and was followed by speeches and then a feast and merrymaking. Mr Naviko had six children, Alumita Naio, Irinieta Sadria, Orisi Nasomia, Peniona Ranitu, Eseta Saravu amd Peni Vunisa,

Only four of the siblings, Ms Sadria, 71, Mr Nasomia, 70, Mr Ranitu, 66 and Mrs Saravu, 64 are still alive.

They were the guests of honour yesterday and commemorated the celebration with the cutting of a cake.

The family name, Naseda was the household name they took which identified them when giving contributions to the church.

Mrs Blake said it was moving to see so many family members turn up from around Fiji.

Her husband, George, a pastor, asked the family to use this occasion to breakdown any differences they may have had and grow closer together.
