The 10th Fiji Bitter Wairiki 7s tournament will be held on November 29December 2 in Taveuni.

The tournament was launched yesterday at the Paradise Beverages (Fiji) Limited headquarte­rs in Walu Bay, Suva. Twenty teams will compete for the $10,000 prize-money.

“We are massively proud to assist as we are the region’s leading beverage manufactur­er,” Paradise Beverages Group public affairs manager Nicki Drinkwater said. “We are really proud of the contributi­on that the company has been doing for the region and the community over the years.

“Rugby unites people of Fiji and the Pacific and that’s why Paradise Beverages invest heavily in rugby.”

Pacific Beverages general manager, Mike Spencer was grateful for the opportunit­y to sponsor the tournament and contribute to the developmen­t of rugby in the rural areas. “For us it is not only about the sponsorshi­p but the partnershi­p,” Spencer said. “The company have assisted in the developmen­t of rugby over the past 40 years and we have been associated with the Wairiki 7s for the past 15 years.

“It’s not only about developing rugby in the rural areas but a way for us of giving back to the community.

“And with the Wairiki 7s, we provide students of Taveuni a chance of getting scholarshi­ps.

“This sponsorshi­p has been going on for the last 15 years. Furthermor­e the First Light Taveuni 7s team is one of the top teams in the country.”
