Workers Are Not Just Workers But an Integral Part of Our Business

- MONICA AGUILAR

Maintaining the talent of employees in our country is one of the main objectives of our human resource fraternity.

This was emphasised yesterday by the Fiji Human Resources Institute vice president Ravinesh Krishna during BSP Life’s sponsorship cheque handover for the FHRI convention.

The two-day convention will be held from this Friday at the Sofitel Fiji Resort and Spa.

“We have lost a lot of skill sets from Fiji to overseas countries and it still continues. “So we are working with partners like the University of the South Pacific and Fiji National University to maintain the talent in Fiji,” said Mr Krishna. According to BSP Life managing director Malakai Naiyaga, this year’s theme is: Our People, Today’s Talent, Tomorrow’s Success. The Bank South Pacific group which is comprised of BSP Life, BSP Bank and BSP Finance made a commitment to support the FHRI Convention since 2015.

The Group had invested a total of $110 000 since 2015 for the institute to be able to host the annual convention.

250 delegates are expected to be part of the Convention this week.

Mr Naiyaga said: “At BSP, we have a set of values that our staff live by and that is the Vanua and community. It reminds us to respect, value and support the communities we operate in.

“Our sponsorship for the Convention also reflects the changing view that workers are not just workers but important human capital that form an integral part of businesses and originations.”

He added that the sponsorship was to recognise the need for continuous support for employees in a changing environment. Mr Naitaga explained that the convention is important because it brings human resource practitioners together to learn how to value their people by realising their contribution towards the business and supporting them to contribute better.
