Woman remanded for allegedly killing partner

A 41-year-old woman alleged to have murdered her de-facto partner was further remanded by the Suva High Court yesterday. Marrianne Premila Devi appeared before Judge Justice Salesi Temo.

Devi is alleged to have murdered Bal Krishna Naidu, 34, on November 17, 2016, at Nasinu.

Justice Temo said that Devi had allegedly set fire to her de-facto husband after putting kerosene on him and as a result he had received 80 per cent burns.

State counsel Lavenia Bogitini filed and served admitted facts.

Devi was represente­d by defence counsel Talei Kean.

The case has been adjourned to November 17, for pre-trial conference.

The trial is being heard before Judge Justice Thushara Rajasinghe.

It is alleged that between 2010 and 2017 in Suva, the accused raped his 19-year-old stepdaught­er.

The accused is being remanded in custody. State Counsel Meli Vosawale and Shirley Tivao informed the court that they will be calling five witnesses.

Defence counsel Vani Filipe informed the court that the accused will be the only one giving evidence. cash to the total amount of $75,744.00. The state was represente­d by Lavenia Bogitini.
