The Nadi Denarau Friends of Rugby is grateful to their sponsors and partners that helped them staged the first Fiji Masters Rugby 10s tournament.

Event coordinator Epineri Susu said last Saturday’s tournament at Prince Charles Park in Nadi was a success.

The tournament was won by Water Authority of Fiji One team which fielded former rugby greats like Viliame Satala, Samu Saumaisue and Niko Qoro. They beat Suva Oldies led by former Flying Fijians captain Mosese Taga 28-5 in the final.

“Three months ago, we had a dream to host this first ever tournament in the country,” Susu said.

“Our sponsors and partners made the dream a reality. It wouldn’t have been possible without their help.

“It is the first tournament of its kind and the response from participating teams has been overwhelming and they can’t wait for next year’s tournament.

“We do not get financial gains from this tournament but the message and its objectives had been received loud and clear which is promoting healthy living, fitness, junior rugby, cancer awareness and the reunion of former rugby players.”

He said it was a great sight, seeing former players and national reps reunite for the same cause and their names being announced for fans to acknowledge their presence at the ground.
