Mr Narayan who resides in Kelston, Auckland was supposed to be deported yesterday. However his case would go through a full review by the new Minister of Immigration Iain Lees-Galloway.

Mr Lee-Galloway in his

Twitter page stated that: “Sagar Narayan will not be deported tomorrow. Case file being prepared for review of the original decision.” Comments followed on his Tweet for hopes of ‘great news’ and ‘kindness in action’.

An Alison Green replied on Mr Lee-Galloway’s

Tweet, “Thank you for showing some humanity and kindness. This is the sort of New Zealand I want to be a part of, the sort that cares.”

The review is understood to be a chance for families and friends of the Narayan family to fight for Mr Narayan’s stay.

Mr Narayan is intellectually disabled and required help with basic tasks, including getting dressed and eating meals.

He moved to New Zealand in 2009 after his grandparents passed away.

His family is understood to have been granted permanent residence in 2008. New-Zealand Immigration had earlier rejected his residence application as a dependent child on health grounds.
