Human Resources Meeting

- ARIETA VAKASUKAWAQA

Human resources need to be part of all strategic planning in a company or an organisation.

This was raised by Asco Motors chief executive officer Craig Sims during the BSP Fiji Human Resources Institute National Convention 2017 at Sofitel Fiji Resort and Spa in Nadi on Friday.

He said that strategic planning, usually rested on a few people within an organisation like the CEO, Financial Controller and Sales manager. Mr Sims said that human resources were more into the administrative work which he believed should change.

It should be understood; he said that the human resources department were the ones that managed the resources of an organisation on a daily basis.

He said they held a very important role in an organisation to see that standards were raised and it was not an easy role because it was more focused on dealing with people. He said Asco Motors was now focused on increasing strategic thinking where the human resources department had been roped in to implement and develop framework policies. “Human resources should have the capability to detect problems if they happen and prevent them from happening. “They should be involved in strategic thinking and how it should be executed, it is great to come up with strategies but if you can’t execute them than its strategic failure,” Mr Sims added.

He said it was their role to see that these strategies were executed with quality and well delivered.

Mr Sims also highlighted the need for employees to create an environment for their employees to enjoy.

“I want my employees to be happy with the work they do for the company because I don’t want them to just come and sit there without doing anything.

“Salary is not the only thing that makes them happy but the environment too,” he added.
