Vodafone: Need To Rope In More People With Visionary and Creative Mindsets

- ARIETA VAKASUKAWAQA

There is a need to rope in people with visionary and creative mindsets in a world where modern technology is rapidly changing said Moureen Chand. The Vodafone Fiji Human Resource Manager was among speakers who were part of the BSP Fiji Human Resources Institute National Convention 2017 at Sofitel Fiji Resort and Spa in Nadi on Friday.

Ms Chand said Vodafone believes in working with young people who were more knowledgeable with modern technology and are well-educated.

She added that their workforce was made up of a dynamic young team who were vibrant and innovative.

Their average age was 27-years-old. Ms Chand said they needed a young team because their industry kept changing with technology.

“We need to be updated with the trends happening in the mobile network and having a workforce that is energetic and vibrant is a plus,” she said.

Most Vodafone Fiji employees, Ms Chand said, were qualified.

“The majority of our workers are degree holders while some hold post graduate degrees.

“There is a need to invest in our employees for us to be able to develop our capabilities to be able to do our roles better,” she added.

Ms Chand said they were more focused on training their employees.

“It is not restricted to anyone. Whether you are at managerial level or junior level, if they have shown potential that is relevant to the role then we send them for training either overseas or locally,” she added.

Ms Chand said companies need to understand that their policy should be more focused in fulfilling the interests of their customers, something which their business was focused on.

“Our customers are the centre of what we do and that has led us to make achievements internationally and locally.

“We believe in the principles of excellence.

“Innovation is also part and parcel of the ways we do things, it makes life easier for us and our employees,” she added.

The qualities of leadership, Ms Chand said, was very important and this was where the human resource department steps and tried to get positivity from their employees.

“The human resource managers need to be a bridge between the CEO and employees. They should try and bring out the good habits of people and this is where communication is important,” he added. FHRI president Kameli Batiweti annoucned that the University of the South Pacific will sponsor next year’s Convention with $10, 000 and Asco Motors will come on board as well.
