The newly much awaited Galaxy Plaza in Labasa is expected to open next month.

It could mean 100 job opportunities for the local market. This was confirmed by Dalip and Sons Limited Director Rohinil Chand. “We will support the people of the North as much as possibly can, but I think you will expect me to recruit the right and best people and that is what I will do,” he said.

“It is a triple story building and while the bottom floor will have a mall with supermarkets, the two stories on top will include hotel rooms and apartment which will have 40 to 45 apartments,” he said.

The building is owned by Dalip and Sons Limited and is located along the Nasekula Road before Labasa town.

Mr Chand said completion of the mall would prevent rural-urban drift.

“The people in the North now don’t need to travel to Viti Levu and Overseas in search for greener pastures,” he said.

He said the infrastructural brought in by government shows how much they are confident in the North.

“We acknowledge for the Gov- ernment Look North Policy which has given a way initiation of large development in the North,” he said.

“It’s important to note how the government is recognising how the North can further develop into bigger businesses centre,” he added.

He stressed that due to unfavourable weather the engineers and builders weren’t able to complete the plaza on March as earlier planned.

“The weather conditions in the North have been unfavourable this few months and the engineers and builders are working hard to complete it by December,” Mr Chand said.

“I cannot give details as to how much money was being spent on the building until the construction completed,” he added.
