Nawaicoba residents applaud Government assistance
Counselor for Nawaicoba in Nadi, Kuar Singh has applauded Government for their effort to assist people affected by drought in the area.
In an interview, the father of four said that about 95 per cent of households in their area had been assisted by Government.
“We want to thank Government for their assistance in helping households in this area access clean water through the emergency water trucks which carts water to every household in this area once a week, its great a job,” Mr Singh said.
He said the 1000 litres a week carted by the Water Authority of Fiji to the 450 households in Nawaicoba and Yako was sufficient for their basic needs in bathing, cooking and washing.
Mr Singh said the community had been affected by the drought for the last four months and in most cases water sources had dried up which made life difficult for residents in the area.
He said that he was responsible for both the 350 households of Nawaicoba and the 100 households of Yako.
Mr Singh thanked the Minister for Infrastructure and Transport, Parveen Bala for making arrangements with Water Authority of Fiji for the provision of emergency water trucks to their area.
He said that most of residents in the area were affected by the drought especially sugarcane farmers.
One of the residents, Nawaicoba farmer, 64 year old, Bijay Naidu thanked Government for their assistance.
