Benevolent Missions International volunteers examined over 700 people with eye infection in the Nadroga Province.

The team of 19 eye specialists were based at Sigatoka Hospital and have since returned to the United States.

The non -profit organisation are dedicated to providing needed ophthalmic care to the underserved in many areas around the world.

BMI Coordinator, Judy Broman said their team paid for their travel expenses and she thanked Outrigger Fiji Beach Resort for providing them with accommodation. "This support enables us to spend our time at the Sigatoka Hospital examining patients that have been screened and selected by the local eye clinic for treatment of eye diseases, medications and glasses.

"We feel very fortunate to be associated with Outrigger Resorts who are always working on improving the lives and wellbeing of those in their community," she said.

They planned to continue their annual trip to Fiji next year to maintain the volunteer programme for the people of Fiji. Outrigger Fiji Beach Resort General Manager Peter Hopgood said the work undertaken by the Benevolent Mission International eye specialists was amazing. "They are gifted, generous people who have taken time out from their busy schedules back in the United States to come and help the people of Fiji.

"My team at the resort feel truly blessed that we could assist in some small way in facilitating the eye specialists to make the journey to Fiji,” he said.
