PM’s Support For Newtown Boxing

Twenty nine boxers of Newtown Boxing Club will now have reason to smile. This was after they received new boxing gear from the Prime Minister’s Office yesterday. Minister for Youth and Sports Laisenia Tuitubou handed over $3,156.66 worth of equipment on behalf of Prime Minister Voreqe Bainimaram­a.

Tuitubou reminded the community on their role towards developing youth groups.

“The Government is working together to assist young men and women succeed in future. We have to give this youth second chance and guide them through,”Tuitubou said.

“Most of the time we only use the youths but we forget to prepare them for the future.

This government is working on giving the youths a second chance in terms of their education and a better job opportunit­y,” Tuitubou said.

Club super heavyweigh­t boxer James Singh acknowledg­e the government for their support. “Before we only had two pair of gloves. I have my own but I always help other boxers and we look out for one another.

“Now that we have these new equipment’s, I’m predicting a successful future for the club and we want to thank government for that,” Singh said.

Singh 22, won a bronze medal for his club during the Fiji Games earlier in the year and has plans to become a profession­al next month.
