From his humble beginnings with a small Vatuwaqa based garment factory in 1987, Mark Halabe’s success today is defined by his vision, aspirations and dedication towards the growth of Textile, Clothing and Footwear (TCF) industry in Fiji. The managing director of Mark One Apparel has seven simple rules of being a successful entrepreneur and constantly uses it to motivate his team.

These are being proactive, begin with the end in mind, put first things first, think win-win, seek first to understand, synergies and sharpen the saw.

These philosophies together with years of hard work and dedication, Mr. Halabe was rewarded during the Prime Minister’s International Business Award. He won the Excellence in Business Leadership Award.

Proudly supported by Golden Manufactures Limited, the Excellence in Business Leadership Award recognises an individual who has shaped the business environment in Fiji through steadfast leadership, vision, tenacity and dedication and who is a true leader and role model for other companies.

Thrilled with his achievement, Mr. Halabe says the Award reflects his valuable input in the TFC industry over the last 30 years.

“I have tried to instill growth into the economy and make the industry proud by being involved in all facets of the industry. It is a proud moment for me. I follow my rules with discipline to be on the path of success. It’s important to implement these rules and live by them,” Mr. Halabe said.

It was through Mr. Halabe’s vision that his factory was able to enter the niche markets. Mark One Apparel is the supplier of high performance sports clothing to over 30 international customers such as the National Rugby League, Australian Football League and the Super League Clubs in the United Kingdom. He continues to ensure that his business is sustainable and on a growth trajectory providing employment opportunities for more Fijians.

“Through a simple vision and keeping focused with complete dedication and tenacity, we have a proven track record of success that is used as examples by others,” he said.

While congratulating Mr. Halabe for the recognition, Investment Fiji chief executive officer, Godo Mueller- Teut says Mr. Halabe has what it takes to be a leader. “The Award honours and recognises the dynamic, inspiring and visionary men and women who developed products and services that create jobs and help the economy grow and Mr. Halabe has done just that.

“The growth of Mark One Apparel and the overall TCF industry in Fiji is a testimony of his dedication and hard work. We need steadfast leaders in Fiji who have the will and tenacity to implement visions and support communities,’ Mr. Mueller- Teut said.
