Lautoka residents’ wait for the new Lautoka Aquatic Centre will soon be over following the Minister for Local Government, Housing, Environment and Transport’s assurance yesterday.

Minister Parveen Kumar Bala has confirmed that the new Lautoka Aquatic Centre would be ready mid-2018. The swimming facility would benefit school children and the general public as well.

“The first phase of the pool construction is underway and it is expected to be completed early next year,” Mr Bala said.

“We will start with the second phase of the construction soon after that,” he added.

“The second phase of construction includes the changing rooms and seating facilities. These works will be carried out from February and completed in June.”

Mr Bala confirmed that the Aquatic Centre will only open when the construction is completed.

The Aquatic Centre features an Olympic standard pool. There will be a 10 lane by 50 metres competition pool, eight lanes by 25 metres, a warm-up pool and a children’s pool located in the Botanical Gardens.
