A14-year-old girl told the Suva High Court yesterday that her mother had oral sex with her about 20 times between January 1 and July 5, 2016. The teenager gave evidence before Justice Salesi Temo yesterday against her 45-year-old mother who is alleged to have raped her in their Nakasi home.

She told the Court on the first day of trial, that her mother did not care for her and the alleged rape came to light when she used to cry on her way to school and she had informed her teacher about it. She said after informing her teacher they went to report the matter at the Nakasi Police Station where she gave her statement and she was taken to a home.

Alleged incident

The court heard that on different occasions between January 1 and July 5 last year, the girl’s mother would perform sexual acts on her. She said at times her mother would tell her to do the same to her.

The court heard that the complainant was staying at St Christopher’s Home until 2015 when her mother brought her home to spend Christmas with the family. The girl told Justice Temo that the relationship between her and her mother was not good because her mother did not care for her as she would not say anything when her elder brothers would assault her or when she asked her mother to do something for her she would refuse.

She said on one occasion her brothers were outside of the house when her mother allegedly raped her and told her not to tell anyone.

She said after raping her, her mother would leave the house and go join her friends. The girl disagreed with Defence lawyer Namrata Mishra after she put to her that the reason the girl did not have a good relationship with her mother was because she followed the wrong crowd and her attitude towards her mother had changed.

Ms Mishra put to the complainant that she started disobeying her mother because her attitude towards her had changed to which she responded with a ‘no’.

The accused is expected to give evidence in Court today.
