OLD BOY IS PROUD FATHER IN THE CROWD
Without the support and guidance of my parents, I wouldn’t have been able to scoop so many awards especially the dux award which means a lot to me and my parents
The Commissioner Northern Joseva Vocea was perhaps the proudest father in the crowd during the Ratu Kadavulevu School prizegiving in Lodoni, Tailevu yesterday.
He watched as his only son walked up to get his trophies and shield to receive the dux award.
Being an Old Boy himself, Mr Vocea said his son, Ratu Osea Kenneth Vocea, had proven himself to be capable and strong-willed. “We have invested a lot in him the whole of our lives. We have taken him around everywhere I was posted by Government like Rotuma, New Zealand, Japan and then back to Fiji,” Mr Vocea said.
“We initially thought to enrol him at Labasa College but he wanted to attend a boarding school. RKS was his first choice. “Boarding school has benefitted him and he has proven it today.” The 18-year-old was emotional when he said: “I am really happy and excited at the same time. I thank God for guiding me and giving me the right direction to go through.
“I wanted to follow my father’s footstep to come to RKS. I had attended old scholars’ meetings with my dad here and I fell in love with RKS. I made up my mind to attend RKS ever since I was six-years-old. “Without the support and guidance of my parents, I wouldn’t have been able to scoop so many awards especially the dux award which means a lot to me and my parents. “Becoming a dux was never my expectation. I just wanted to make my parents proud because they supported my decision of attending a boarding school.
“At first, when I moved back after living in Tokyo for three years, it was difficult to manage and adapt to the environment, especially with the boarding life because it is very different. But as time went by I got used to it.”
His plans: “I want to become an economist and I have applied to a few universities.”
