DRUG BUST IN LAUTOKA SEWERS

Police has confirmed that the 30 parcels of dried leaves Water Authority of Fiji officials assisted them retrieve from the Lautoka sewer lines last week was marijuana.

Chief of Operations Assistant Commission­er of Police, Rusiate Tudravu said drug related offences were getting out of hand and the law enforcers were not going to spare anyone found engaged in such illegal activities. According to ACP Tudravu the dried leaves have been analyzed and confirmed to be marijuana. A 42-year-old man and a 31-yearold woman have been charged with one count each of in possession of illicit drugs following the find. They will be appearing at the Lautoka Court today.

“No one will get away with it. People may think they can continue doing these illegal activities behind our backs and we won’t catch them,” ACP Tudravu said.

“We are stepping up our processes, we are aware of people doing it from their homes, and other places where they think the law won’t catch them.

“But we will.

“And when we do, we will deal with them.”

ACP Tudravu said members of the public are assisting them track down drug offenders.

“We are getting calls all the time and our officers around the country are following them up, we are getting on top of things and catching them one by one,” he said.

“I want to encourage everyone out there to do the right thing and come to us.

“We need to stop this crime. “We need to put those responsibl­e to task.”
