Girl allegedly raped behind supermarke­t

An eight-year-old was allegedly raped in broad daylight behind a supermarke­t in Savusavu town on Sunday. Police spokespers­on Ana Naisoro confirmed the incident, saying Police are currently investigat­ing the case.

“Police investigat­ors are currently investigat­ing the incident,” Ms Naisoro said.

“A couple saw the young girl crying in town and when they approached her and the suspect he allegedly fled and with the assistance of another woman the matter was reported to Police,” she said.

Ms Naisoro said a man is currently in custody.

“There is a report of an alleged rape in Savusavu Town and a 30-year- old man is in custody,” she said.

“The victim is being medically examined, thenwe will to talk to her and her parents.” Waleen George, charged with a count of aggravated robbery each.

The duo allegedly allegedly used force to grab the bag containing $110,000 from the two employees of Western Union’s Damodar City Complex branch in Suva of which only $2000 was recovered, the Court heard.

The two are remanded in custody until the High Court hearing, scheduled for November 24.

It was also revealed in Court that Qoli had breached a two-year suspended sentence last year. Magistrate George ordered the two accused to make bail applicatio­ns in the High Court.
