Alumita Qeramatoga has dedicated her achievement to her late father. The dux of Noco Secondary School was emotional when she spoke of her achievement during the prize giving at the school yesterday.

The 18-year-old of Nabudrau, Noco, Rewa, said she knew her father would have been so proud of her.

“After my dad passed away, we did not have money to financially support our family and my mother had sacrificed a lot of her wishes and dreams for me and my other three siblings,” Alumita said.

“We owe so much to her and my father who always stood by us and blessed us even though we did not have enough resources to get through our academic education.

“It was not easy for me to get my award without my father by my side. But I worked hard and focused on my education for him and my mother who means the world to me.” Her mother, Vasiti Koroi, said: “I know she misses her father but does not express it to me. I know she missed his presence today. She has been a very good daughter of mine.” List: Sportswoman of the year: Sainimili Taubau Sportsman of the year: Usaia Sevakasgia Highest Fiji Year 10 Certificate Exam achievement award: Joeli Vasukiwai Highest Fiji Year 12 Certificate Exam achievement award: Litiana Vula Highest Fiji Year 13 Certificate Exam achievement award: Asena Melrose Best Leadership award: Aporosa Qio Proximity award: Seini Osanamoli Best overall award: Apete Qalilawa Dux award: Alumita Qeramatoga Edited by Ranoba Baoa
